Formacion - regular:   Present of estar + present  participle

For -ar verbs, the past participle is formed from stem of infinitive + ando ,  
   e.g.   hablando
For -er and -ir verbs, the past participle is formed from stem of infinitive +  iendo ,  
   e.g.   comiendo , or   viviendo :

		hablar	comer	vivir
	yo	estoy hablando	estoy  comiendo	estoy  viviendo
	tu	estás  hablando	estás   comiendo	estás    viviendo
	el /ella / usted	está  hablando	está   comiendo	está  viviendo
	nosotros	estamos  hablando	estamos   comiendo	estamos  viviendo
	vosotros	estáis  hablando	estáis   comiendo	estáis    viviendo
	ellos / ellas / ustedes	están  hablando	están  comiendo	están    viviendo

Examples:

	¿Que haces ? or ¿Que estas haciendo ?	What are you doing? . .
	Estoy comiendo	I am eating
	Estoy leiendo	I am reading
	Estoy hablando	I am speaking
	Estoy tocando  guitarra.	I am playing (the guitar)

Formacion - iregular:   A few verbs have slightly different spelling - for the past participle.  E.g:

	pedir		pidiendo	asking
	preferir		preferiendo	prefering
	dormir		durmiendo	sleeping
	poder		pudiendo	playing

Note that for these the stem in the past participle reflects the stem from ist person present eg.  pido


Any pronoun e.g. "it"  can be positioned before or after,. E.g:

	Lo estoy us ando or Estoy usándo lo	I am using it
	Lo estoy escrib iendo or Estoy escribiéndo lo	I am using it

Expresions using the present participle:
The present participle is often used in expressions with certain verbs e.g.  seguir, continuar, andar, ir.  E.g:

	Sigue lloviendo	It is still raining
	Continuo trbajando  allii	I am still working there

Use of infinitive
Spanish often uses an infnitive where English uses the gerund (.ing).  E.g. after prepositions:

	Sin pensar	Without thinking
	Before leaving	Antes de salir
	Smoling is prohibited	Se prohibe fumar
